There is a lot of graffiti on the walls in big cities, especially in the suburbs. For individuals or businesses, graffiti on their wall presents a vulgarity. Here are some techniques for cleaning graffiti that gives a negative image to your neighborhood or your home.
Hydro-gumming and aerogumming
Hydro-scrubbing and air-scrubbing is a widely used technique for cleaning and removing graffiti. It is applied to all types of supports, multi-supports and multi-markings. For aerogumming, no water is used, just air and aggregates. For hydrogumming, water is essential, mixed with air and micro-aggregates. The same machine is used to perform these techniques, but as water is used for hydrogumming, a water-tube nozzle must be added. Aerogommage or hydrogommage? The choice depends on the surface, there are surfaces where the use of water is prohibited, so opt for aerogommage. In the opposite case, it is better to choose hydrogumming. These techniques have some advantages, it is distinguished by its ecological aspect and helps to protect the environment.
The recovery after fading
For the cleaning of graffiti, the recovery after fading is recommended if the support is covered with old paint. The technique of covering consists in extracting the graffiti on a painted support without damaging the support. With a solvent, it is necessary to make the graffiti less clear and then apply a suitable paint on the support to completely mask the graffiti. Often, microporous paints are used to treat and remove traces of graffiti. The advantage of this technique with regard to the existing heritage on the facade or wall is that after the treatment with the covering after fading, it remains intact and without any retouching. On the other hand, this technique is a little slow compared to the others, this is due to the fact that there are some steps to follow.
Solubilization
Solubilization is another technique to clean graffiti. Solubilization is widely used to remove graffiti, it is applied especially on the so-called inert supports with paints with very strong adhesion. It consists in using solvents to get rid of the graffiti. Indeed, for this technique, we use solvents based on acetone and chlorine which are generally very powerful solvents. It is a very effective technique against the most stubborn graffiti to remove. However, the use of strong solvents is harmful to the environment, so it would be better to limit its use.
